Thank you again to Andy White, Jim Chapman and Rick Duke for joining Betsy for the presentation: “Beyond the Boomer Hype!”
Betsy will serve on the Green Building Council of the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders’ Association in 2010. The council provides a forum for professionals in the industry to promote green home standards and best practices, to network with others in the industry and to take a proactive role as leaders in the green housing industry. BSC has worked with the HBA to brand this new council with its logo and web presence on the HBA’s website.
BSC is proud to announce that Betsy has been elected the 2010 Chairman of the Board for the Atlanta 50+ Housing Council. Betsy is looking forward to being sworn in along with other HBA board chairs and board members by Senator Johhny Iaskson.
Betsy is preparing for a panel presentation for the International Builders Show in Las Vegas later in January. Betsy will be facilitating an educational session featuring Jim Chapman of Jim Chapman Communities, Andy White of Lifestone Communities and Saluda River Club and Rick Duke, an Atlanta based consultant. Art on the River – an exhibit of works Inspired by the Saluda – was a great success!
November 20, 21 & 22: Local and international artists displayed a wide variety of amazing paintings, photographs and silverwork at the Chickawa Outdoor Center within Saluda River Club. Opening night was attended by over 100 people who mingled with the artists, visited with friends and neighbors and enjoyed a beautiful moonlit evening on the banks of the Saluda. The show continued to draw art enthusiasts and buyers as throughout the weekend.
Art on the River not only showcased the outstanding talents of the artists and the beauty of the venue, it also allowed Lifestone Communities, the developer of Saluda River Club, to give back to the local arts community. A portion of the proceeds from the art sales will be donated to the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties. The Council helps to promote and enhance the arts in Richland and Lexington Counties, South Carolina.
“It was a wonderful event! We enjoyed working with the artists and with Saluda River Club to promote the weekend’s activities.” Betsy Sheppard, B.Sheppard Consulting.
Next step, President Obama’s signature!
The NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) released the following announcement today . . .
In a major victory for NAHB that will boost the fledgling housing recovery and help struggling business owners nationwide, Congress today approved legislation that will extend the first-time home buyer tax credit beyond its Nov. 30 deadline and expand it to a wider group of home buyers.
The legislation, which will be signed into law shortly by President Obama, will extend the $8,000 credit for first-time home buyers for sales contracts entered into by April 30, 2010 and closed by June 30. Further, it has been expanded to include a new $6,500 credit for owners of existing homes who are purchasing a new primary residence. An existing home owner can claim the $6,500 tax credit if they have been residing in their primary residence for five consecutive years out of the last eight.
In more good news, the income eligibility limits to claim the full credit amount for both groups of home buyers have been raised from $75,000 for single taxpayers and $150,000 for married taxpayers filing a joint return to $125,000 for individuals and $225,000 for married couples.
NAHB’s consumer oriented web site, federalhousingtaxcredit.com will provide complete details on the enhanced home buyer tax credit after the bill is signed into law by the President.
More details on the passing of the legislation can be found on the Washington Business Journal website. It’s a great time to buy a home!
